Invisible Elephant - Sleepwalking

Invisible Elephant - Sleepwalking

Genre: Shoegaze/Slowcore/Dream Pop
Format: mp3 | CBR320kbps
Country: United Kingdom
Size: 120 Mb

Tracklist:
01. Drift
02. From the Bottom Of a Well (with Maryliz Guillemi)
03. Slow Wave
04. Fugue State
05. Never There
06. Two Moons (with Maryliz Guillemi)

Musician about this album: "it's been a while since the the last album, longer than i was hoping for. i thought about recording this album but thinking was pretty much all I was getting up to until i got an email last year asking if i would be interested in submitting a song for a compilation.

that turned out to be the spark/motivation/kick up the arse (cheers euan!) i needed because after i recorded that one song i couldn't stop and the whole thing was done pretty quickly.

the first album (the lights go out) was an unexpected but interesting spooky creative trip, the second (anomie or swimming in a black sea) was the heartbreak album and this one is back the more spontaneous feel of the first. a 40 minute trip around what was happening in my brain around that time.

i did have a concept for the album once i'd inadvertently ended up starting it. i wanted to record something was an album length sleep cycle. around the time of the recording i was having a strange time sleeping. i'd eventually drift off (i think) but i wasn't sure if i'd gone to sleep or not. i'd hallucinate and see spiders dangling over the bed and ants crawling over me and then wake up, do my normal just-woken-up things and then wake up for real. if not spiders and ants it would be drowning, being dragged under the waves and unable to pull myself up. it wasn't actually sleepwalking as far as i can remember but it was a strange time and that all filtered through to make the record.

i wanted the record to start with clarity (i'm awake) then slowly drift off into a peaceful sleep before disturbance and nightmare visions in the middle and then wake up again refreshed at the end (two moons).

one area of continuity is the haruki murakami references. people have emailed and mentioned them before and there are two songs in particular which are probably obvious to anyone who is interested by the titles. the other consistent thing is the environmental recording of children playing the same recording has been used in all of the albums.

as may be apparent, i've decided to be a bit more open an communicative starting with this album (there are also notes on the individual tracks if you click on them). i don't want to share too much but i realise from things i like and also from some emails i've had that some people are interested in knowing more and that it can add something to the music if there's a bit of context so although it's against my nature i'l do my best from here on in.

one final thing i should address is the thanks on the cassette sleeve. i forgot angie without whom none of this would have happened. i know i haven't exactly changed the world but releasing these records has been important to me and without angie's initial encouragement and help i never would have done more than the lights go out and no more than about 5 people would have heard my music so a huge thank you and apology.

Ummagma

Ummagma

Description: Ummagma is a Canadian-Ukrainian duo comprised of Alexx Kretov and Shauna McLarnon. Ummagma’s musical style is vacillating and broadly influenced “easy positive music” with intense richly-layered landscapes of pulsating sound, a mixture of the ethereal with sublime resonance, beats and rhythm that effectively creates richly layered landscapes. While this music encompasses several genres of music (dream pop, progressive rock, post-rock, ambient/ethereal, shoegaze and post-punk), there is a common remarkable theme, elevating atmosphere and stirring effect in Ummagma’s music.

For Alexx, making music began in childhood and recording began with a double-deck recorder in post-Soviet Ukraine. Shauna’s songwriting began with acapella tunes. Sasha is originally from Kremenets (western Ukraine) and Shauna is from Whitehorse, Yukon (Canada). This joint project began as a huge affair with love and sound in Moscow 2003.

Comparisons have been made to such performers as the Cocteau Twins, Blonde Redhead, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, AIR, Sigur Ros, Stereolab, Michael Brook, Lush, Mercury Rev, Talk Talk, Snow Patrol, Ultravox, and Bowery Electric, but everyone will surely find something truly and exclusively UMMAGMA in this music…

In mid-July, Ummagma released two CD albums (“Ummagma” and “Antigravity”) and has issued several videos on YouTube.

C'est la Mort - Empty Words Fill Lonely Spaces

C'est la Mort - Empty Words Fill Lonely Spaces

Genre: Post-Punk/Shoegaze/Dream Pop
Country: USA

Tracklist:
01. No Time to Say Goodbye
02. Among the Ruins
03. Paper Ships
04. Nothing Ever Lasts
05. Bridge of Sighs
06. Drown Out
07. Bled
08. Stand Fast
09. Final Call
10. Closing Credits

Description: Drawing from post-punk, shoegaze, dream pop and darkwave, C’est la Mort excavate corners of prized record collections and secret histories to create an atmospheric and angular dream-pop soundscape. Dark and driving, they take cues from 4AD, the Chameleons, Cocteau Twins, Lush, Blonde Redhead, Colin Newman, and the Comsat Angels, while also reconfiguring their influences into something new.

Vocalist Kim House’s melodic drive on her Rickenbacker bass propels every song from start to inevitable powerful conclusion while Geoff Cox and Greg Forschler create walls and sinews of guitars that would make Robin Guthrie proud. Garrett Croxon anchors it all and pushes forward with an intricate post-punk jazz swing. Kim’s ethereal vocals float over the dreamy, lush soundscape (c).

Golden Gardens - Between the Siren and the Amulet

Golden Gardens - Between the Siren and the Amulet

Genre: Shoegaze/Dream Pop/Ambient
Country: USA

Tracklist:
01. Peisinoë
02. The Empress
03. The Golden Dawn
04. Anthemusa
05. Ghostwood
06. Little Birds
07.  Shimmerine
 08. Amethyst
09. Three Jewels
10. Night Never Ends
11. Cimaruta
12. The Death of Lovers

Description: Golden Gardens is the duo located in the city of Utopia and producing dreamscapes and anthems for magical minds. At least this is what their official Facebook page say. In fact this is a music duo that recently released their first longplay just in vein of their first Somnambulist EP. According to the words of musicians themselves, their music takes influences from music boxes and icicles; raindrops against a window pane; books being opened and closed at the library; submerging oneself in the bathtub; dry leaves being crushed underfoot; grey skies; summery fields; crashing waves and puddles in the forest. And the whole bunch of various artists, such as Slowdive, Cranes, Akira Yamaoka, Bohren And Der Club of Gore, Massive Attack, Portishead, Bauhaus, My Bloody Valentine and a lot of others.
Between the Siren and the Amulet is an album of perfectly produced warm shoegaze music. Starting with a droning ambient introduction, this album presents dreamy guitar based music and even more dreamy and gentle female vocals, that fill you with the atmosphere of complete calmness. Delayed and hazy guitars make songs sound totally soundscapic, ambient. And admitting the crystal beauty of singer's vocals again. A perfect piece of music for dreamers. Invisible Elephant - Anomie or Swimming in a Black Sea

Invisible Elephant - Anomie or Swimming in a Black Sea

Genre: Shoegaze/Post-Rock/Dream Pop
Country: United Kingdom

Tracklist:
01. Commercial Appeal
02. Everything
03. Where is Home from Here?
04. Wish [Feat. Ryli]
05. When It's All Over
06.  Room 208
07. Do You Believe?
 08. Black Sound
09. Back in the Box

Description: Invisible Elephant is the solo project of a UK artist who writes the songs, plays all of the instruments and records the work at home combining found sounds, hazy guitars and spectral vocals. Blending elements of post-rock, shoegaze, psychedelic rock, folk-rock and dream pop he creates an immersive sound that defies simple categorisation. Veering from softly spoken psychedelic folk to ethereal soundscapes to monolithic walls of feedback, it's difficult to pin the sound down to one genre. Following on from last year's impressive and extremely well received debut Invisible Elephant returns with 'Anomie or Swimming in a Black Sea' an album of quiet heartbreak, searing dissolution and ultimately redemption. Anomie expands and builds on the dreamlike ambient haziness sound that made The Lights Go Out an otherworldly journey and lets reality filter in. What follows is an exploration of an inner world through sound and emotion in the light of loss.

The indefinable nature of Invisible Elephant's music isn't really surprising given the huge influence it takes from the literary works of Haruki Murakami as well as the diverse array of subtle musical influences from Elliott Smith, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai to Sparklehorse. This informs the sound which fuses the downbeat sincerity of freak folk with the visceral force of shoegaze and the cinematic euphoria of post-rock. The end result is music which exhibits subtlety, ferocity, discordance, melody and an acute ear for imbuing the familiar with the futuristic.

Anilore - Still Awake

Anilore - Still Awake

Genre: Shoegaze/Dream Pop
Format: mp3 | CBR128kbps
Country: USA
Size: 52 Mb

Tracklist:
01. Something Always Shines
02. Imagine You
03. More
04. World Ends
05. Soiled Son
06. The Heavy Song
07. Movement
08. Octavia
09. Black Halo
10. Absence
11. DMYH
12. Showers Of Happiness

Description: a great shoegaze record dating back to 1996 and remastered ten years after. The members of Anilore met in 1992 at college. They soon realized that their musical tastes were shaped by the same influences--bands such as Joy Division, the Cocteau Twins, New Order, the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Red House Painters, the Pixies, and Nirvana; artists such as Tom Waits and Nick Cave; and the seminal alternative British labels 4AD and Creation Records. After many years of lineup changes, demos, etc., the band recorded their debut album, Still Awake, in 1996. In 2006, guitarist Andrew Malenda decided to re-master Still Awake (c).
Extremely underrated, considering the fact that Anilore's got only 11K scrobbles @ last.fm at the moment, so it's highly recommended to be checked out. A sample track is here:

05. When They Come (Monsoon)
06. Submarined within the Octopus' pouch (Submarined)
07. Nemus at the bottom of ocean (Nemus Theme)

Description: a young formation of free people from Kiev, Ukraine, who play dreamy and hypnotizing shoegaze. The represented album is a collection of self-released material, recorded in 2010. It actually is one long set, split into 13 tracks of warm shoegazing music, which can easily be tagged as space rock too. Tracks are mostly instrumental and vocals that appear from time to time are perceived as another part of instrumental sound flow. Beautiful, relaxing and beautiful again. Totally worthy to at least give a listen. You can find Summer God Teachings music and download it for free/listen it for free using links below:
