Description: If we look upon PVZ’s work in 2012. (album ’Izvan Sopstva’) we can see that ’Per Aspera Ad Astra’ is a logical continueum. Those of you who followed PVZ from the beggining will realise that this album, ’Per Aspera Ad Astra’, is something new. Still, there is well known atmosphere that Plamen creates, but something more is hidden beneth the surface of every single note. Deep inside the core of the album is the ultimate silence, beauty and something unknown. This unknown fields, manifested as darkness, are touched by the tourch of Sifr (Slavnik), and that was the moment when the music started to write, literary, itself. We won’t be wrong if we say that the sound of album comes from the inside, this dark and wonderes place, lighted up just a little, enough for the beauty to manifest itself and transform intro the notes. The light is shining, showing the path. The first step has been made, Per Aspera Ad Astra.

Ummagma

Ummagma

Description: Ummagma is a Canadian-Ukrainian duo comprised of Alexx Kretov and Shauna McLarnon. Ummagma’s musical style is vacillating and broadly influenced “easy positive music” with intense richly-layered landscapes of pulsating sound, a mixture of the ethereal with sublime resonance, beats and rhythm that effectively creates richly layered landscapes. While this music encompasses several genres of music (dream pop, progressive rock, post-rock, ambient/ethereal, shoegaze and post-punk), there is a common remarkable theme, elevating atmosphere and stirring effect in Ummagma’s music. 

For Alexx, making music began in childhood and recording began with a double-deck recorder in post-Soviet Ukraine. Shauna’s songwriting began with acapella tunes. Sasha is originally from Kremenets (western Ukraine) and Shauna is from Whitehorse, Yukon (Canada). This joint project began as a huge affair with love and sound in Moscow 2003. 


Comparisons have been made to such performers as the Cocteau Twins, Blonde Redhead, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, AIR, Sigur Ros, Stereolab, Michael Brook, Lush, Mercury Rev, Talk Talk, Snow Patrol, Ultravox, and Bowery Electric, but everyone will surely find something truly and exclusively UMMAGMA in this music…

In mid-July, Ummagma released two CD albums (“Ummagma” and “Antigravity”) and has issued several videos on YouTube.

Description: been missing some neofolk on the blog? Today I present you a beautiful one-man project from Italy, Ishtar. Playing keyboards in Adveniat Hiems and LustNotes, Ishtar has been part of the Italian musical scene for more than a decade. This project presents instrumental tracks laying somewhere between the neofolk and neoclassical genres. Music themes are focused on memories, myths and visions, enriched with a touch of melancholy and a strongly personal interpretation. Although the style has its roots in Northern Europe and is heavily influenced by the sounds of bands such as Ulver (in Kveldssanger) and Empyrium, the Italian nature of the project dominates the style, making it unique, unusual and deeply rooted. Description: Days flow like a brook waters glittering in the sunlight. Dreams and remembrances get mixed with each other. Morning looks like evening, and night invites to forests where sacral dance of the Nature takes place away from street lamps and strangers' eyes. Getting warmed with sunlight, we come to a new era. Here sand and stones lay beneath fallen conifers' needles. Roots attract lightning bugs when trees lose their leaves and prepare to complete the main life cycle while their bare branches spreads under moonlight, rain and cold winds. Distant thunder sounds like its own echo playing a melody by feathers of ruffled owls. Lightnings turn to stares of angels coming down to Earth as whole World is quivering, pulsating and singing his everlasting song.
This split unites two works which are similar in discovering something new in drone ambient. Two projects - from Kiev, Ukraine and from Minsk, Belarus - explore guitar sound as a tool for developing abstract sound canvases. These abstract constructions are usually based on minimalistic sound streams and textures whose interlacing forms massive soundscapes.

Description: Der Einsiedler is second full-length album of ambient act Mealann from Poland, found in August 2011 by Eija Risen from numerous projects like Risen v0id, Cold Womb Descent, Astral Monolith and few electronic ones. After releasing the debut album and two splits with friends, second full length release combines everything that made this project up to that day.

Album contains eight instrumental tracks, whose titles are nouns in German language. Its sound is an excerpt from perception of a lonely ranger inside, but outside of the big city, searching for traces of beauty beneath overwhelming sadness. Slow and repetitive, yet painstaking pieces of melody in the vein of ambient black metal Burzum releases, reminding of bands like Sieghetnar and Spectral Lore combine open and free atmosphere partially bound by traces of grim thoughts and unstable mood.

Evolved from one-man pagan metal project, Plamen Vecne Zime is now producing ambient music. Themes for tracks have changed from pagan thematics to personal viewing of things, nature's beauty and stuff like that. Stremiti is a very specific album, that would be good not for every ambient music lover, mainly because of its concept. Sounding really close to Лихолесье, and some other ambient projects with folk touch. Anyways, checking the preview video will help you to decide, whether you'll like it or not:
