Description: Between Dusk and Dawn is collaborative release of two musicians
from different countries, bc_ranger (also Endless Melancholy) from Ukraine and fydhws (also Sferi, Теми и Идеи etc.) from Macedonia.
The idea of cooperation appeared at the beginning of the summer, and then during three months Between Dusk and Dawn was recorded, where musicians shared their ideas and mixed them into one record. Working process and the result it brought was rather unusual for both of them.

Description: not quite usual piano instrumental. A collaboration of Martin Lukanov (who is both a clasically trained pianist and a sound artist working in the fields of electroacoustic music and noise) and Mytrip (you gotta know this outfit for the split album with EUS, previously posted) seem not to aim for becoming another project, composing instrumental tunes in vein of the whole bunch of modern classical composers. "Two" is a kind of album, where you have to listen between notes, if you want to find the real beauty. Minimal and subtle piano, played by Martin Lukanov on the album, is very calming and gives a very different perception of this instrument. I'd go for the term "ambient piano" here, cause in this case piano really works for creating the ambience, but not the actual tune going throughout the whole composition. It works well with all the textures and droning layers added by Mytrip, and sometimes just brings the sonic pleasure from listening this to the highest point. The leading motif in the release is the dual nature of the process of collaboration, it reaches every part of the process, from the length of the pieces, through the total duration of the work, from the construction and location of the artists in the tracks, to the visual representation of the album.

Description: You might have already heard of Like a Villain, if you like musical explorations through last.fm. This is a project of Holland Andrews from Portland, Oregon, creating "ethereal melodies of melancholy and strangeness". Her music is an experimental mix of instrumental melodies and singing, sometimes hypnotic, sometimes very emotional, and at the same time quite innovative. Call it avant-garde or post-whatever, or just enjoy the tracks. Having previously released two albums, Like a Villain now decided to collaborate with another project from Portland, The Early, for a split album, released by Friends For Life Records. The Early is a full-band of two guitarists and a drummer producing experimental semi-improvisational (or even fully improvisational) instrumental madness. I would call it post-rock, and hopefully this doesn't create the clichéd image of this genre in your head. Anyways, both parts of the split are united by the main idea of experiments in music, and surprisingly this is a very good, enjoyable record, that makes you want to re-listen it over again.

Description: It's Not Boring. It's Ambient is a double CD compilation of Ukrainian and Polish ambient artists released as a collaboration between Preserved Sound in Kraków (www.preservedsound.com) and AZH Promo in Kyiv (www.azh.com.ua/promo). The idea for the compilation came in autumn 2011 when the guys at Preserved Sound talked about doing a compilation of Polish ambient artists. After contacting friends at AZH Promo in Kyiv it became clear that they had also been having the same ideas about releasing a compilation of Ukrainian ambient artists. Thus It's Not Boring. It's Ambient was born.

Bringing together some of the best ambient music from around the region, It's Not Boring. It's Ambient aims to cross borders to present an ecletic mix of the genre that has become known as 'ambient'. Artists on the compilation include sound composer Heinali and electronic artist Nikolaienko from Ukraine, as well as improvised music artist Emiter and experimental musician Pleq from Poland, amongst many more.

It's Not Boring. It's Ambient was released at Les Kurbas theatre, Kyiv on 10 February 2012 at an event which Lights Dim, Heinali and Visionary Hours also played. Our aim is to show that music can cross borders where politics fails, and bring together some of these artists from Ukraine and Poland for concerts.

Description: after visiting a show of this artist I couldn't help dropping a few words about his music, because it is very expressive, yet minimalistic, as most of ambient is. So, Lights Dim is a solo project of Marek Kamiński (also New Century Classics). Starlit Corners of Our Homes is an album, that has been recorded and mixed in jan/feb 2010 and contains ambient-based compositions with involvement of piano. Probably nothing new to modern classical genre, but this record is not about inventing new things, it is about expressing authors feelings in a very warm, romantic and melancholic way.

Description: Days flow like a brook waters glittering in the sunlight. Dreams and remembrances get mixed with each other. Morning looks like evening, and night invites to forests where sacral dance of the Nature takes place away from street lamps and strangers' eyes. Getting warmed with sunlight, we come to a new era. Here sand and stones lay beneath fallen conifers' needles. Roots attract lightning bugs when trees lose their leaves and prepare to complete the main life cycle while their bare branches spreads under moonlight, rain and cold winds. Distant thunder sounds like its own echo playing a melody by feathers of ruffled owls. Lightnings turn to stares of angels coming down to Earth as whole World is quivering, pulsating and singing his everlasting song.
This split unites two works which are similar in discovering something new in drone ambient. Two projects - from Kiev, Ukraine and from Minsk, Belarus - explore guitar sound as a tool for developing abstract sound canvases. These abstract constructions are usually based on minimalistic sound streams and textures whose interlacing forms massive soundscapes.
